Youngster Admits Longstone Damage

The damage to a window at Longstone

St Mary’s Police have found out who smashed a window at the Longstone Heritage Centre this weekend.

It’s now thought the repair bill could reach £200 because specialised safety glass was broken.

PC Mat Collier says a young boy who is under 16 has admitted causing the damage following extensive police enquiries and an interview at the police station yesterday.

Mat says the youngster will probably be asked to pay for the damage, in line with their restorative justice approach.

Officers are likely to go into school today following more vandalism at the weekend. Birdwatchers found that the door latch had been damaged and wood panels put through at a bird hide in the Lower Moors yesterday. Police say they have reason to believe younger Islanders did it.
