Police Roll Out Child Internet Safety Initiative

The Five Islands School

Pupils at the Five Islands School have been the first in our police force area to experience a new police-led internet safety initiative.

PC Tracy Fulton is spending two days talking to pupils of all ages about online safety. Tracy says they’ll be discussing what youngsters do online in the workshops.

The ‘First to a Million’ information video is available on YouTube and points out where young people might be taking risks online.

There’s now more emphasis placed on the dangers of revealing too much personal information, particularly with the ease in uploading photographs to the internet using smart phones.

Tracy said youngsters are not as naïve as parents think they are and regularly access the internet through a variety of devices such as Blackberries and iPhones.

The pupils will be told whom they can turn to if they are bullied online and the workshops will explain how private or personal photographs, or other material posted online, can be removed.
