Royal Mail Make Temporary Switch To Newquay

Islanders should get their mail and papers on time today.

Skybus had contracted with Royal Mail to fly Islander aircraft out of Land’s End and when that grass runway became waterlogged last week, and strong winds cancelled flights, post was delayed.

The Steamship Company said their contract was limited to flying from Land’s End with a back up option of transfer on the Gry Maritha.

On Wednesday, four days worth of mail was brought over by sea and postal staff worked into the night to deal with the backlog of 150 sacks of post.

Now a temporary agreement has been reached to bring in post through Newquay.

Newspapers will also be coming in through this route.

St Mary’s post office says outgoing mail will need to be received in Hugh Town by 2pm to make the 3pm freight flight to the mainland.
