Floods Causing Severe Rail Disruption

Penzance Railway Station

Islanders trying to travel upcountry by train have been forced to find alternative means of travel after a landslip at Teignmouth closed the railway line last night.

St Mary’s businessman Euan Rodger is one local who ended up stuck at Penzance last night and had to book a flight from Newquay to get to London today.

First Great Western say trains cannot run between Exeter St David’s and Newton Abbot. Bus services will run but road conditions are poor and will add considerable time to journeys.

Services between Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Penzance and stations in between, are running but may be subject to last minute delay and cancellation.

The main line from Exeter to London has been reopened after flooding at Tiverton but there are delays and temporary speed limits.
