St Mary’s Teenager To Train With Judo National Squad

A St Mary’s teenager has been selected to train with the British Judo Council national squad next year.

Harry Stone will go to Tamworth following his success in the National Championships in Hereford last week.

Harry, who has just turned 14, won 1 of his 4 fights in the 14-15 age bracket, in the under 55kg weight category.

In May, he gained bronze at the National Championships in the 13-14 age group.

This latest competition was seen as a big step up for him, according to his father, Dave.

Harry’s talents have been spotted thanks to support from the Council. Children’s Services paid for the trip under their ‘Gifted and Talented’ programme.

Might a trip to Rio be in his future? Whatever it leads to, I wish him the best of luck and hope he enjoys the experience!
