Scilly Has Lowest Jobless Rate In UK

The Isles of Scilly has the lowest percentage of unemployed people receiving benefits in the UK.

Figures just released by the Office of National Statistics show that 0.5% of 16-64 year olds available for work are claiming jobseekers allowance.

The highest number of claimants is in Hull where the figure was 8.3% in October.

That means just three men and three women are making claims currently on the islands.

There’s an awful lot to worry about from my point of view – I’m concerned that the islands’ job market is set for an implosion.

Imagine how the statistics will change if the council is disbanded and work goes back to Cornwall CC! It will bring a whole new meaning to ‘ageing and declining population’!
