Tourism Partnership To Take Over Walk Scilly Event

The Tourism and Business Partnership has taken on the organisation of Walk Scilly. And they’re looking into hold the event at both the start and end of the season.

The week–long programme of guided walks began in 2007 and was first arranged by volunteers as a major event to kick start the season.

The two most recent festivals were operated as a commercial venture by local man, Euan Rodger.

Euan says he is now concentrating on his other business interests and has handed over the brand and the website to the new tourism body.

Partnership member, Sabine Schraudolph, says the 2013 walks will be held in the last week of March. She says it’s important to set the March 29th start date so visitors can plan ahead.

Walk leaders have been contacted and have expressed an interest. Guides will be printed next month and information will be handed out at the Outdoor Show in London in January.

The Partnership hasn’t set the autumn dates yet.

In the past, Walk Scilly has received grant-aid from the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty but Sabine doubts whether they’ll ask for further support, as it’s the 6th year and should be sustainable.
