Islands To Feature Weekly On New TV Channel

The Islands are set to be promoted through a weekly TV programme shown across Europe on satellite TV.

The producers of The Cornwall Channel, launched last month, have provided St Mary’s resident, Tim Guthrie, with a professional broadcast-standard TV camera. Tim will record islands’ news stories, features and interviews and send them to the mainland for inclusion in the broadcast.

And Tim is looking for locals who want to be interviewed.

He says so far, St Mary’s police have agreed to feature, and he’s keen to show all the islands for at least five minutes a week, to build up a following.

Tim says he just wants to reflect life in Scilly. The ‘Island Parish’ format worked well before and he feels a similar approach would be suitable.

Shane Soloman, who manages the channel, says their feature on Scilly in the first show generated by far the most feedback for the channel. He wants the islands included regularly, and feels it’ll interest his audience and could encourage visitors

The programme airs at 9pm every Monday on Sky channel 212 or FreeSat 401.
