Advent Lanterns To Illuminate Scilly’s Nativity Parade

Islanders will be encouraged to make lanterns to illuminate the annual nativity parade this year.

Rose Didlick is coordinating the new initiative for Advent. Earlier this year, the Council arranged a lantern-making workshop that proved popular and which ended with a procession through Hugh Town.

Following the success of that event, Rose is planning four creative workshops on Sundays, starting on the 2nd of December and running through the month. There’ll then be a parade on the 23rd.

Rose says you won’t finish the lantern in one week so anyone taking part will need to attend more than one session.

The lanterns are made from willow and a special tissue paper and Rose hopes that Christmas-inspired designs of stars and angels will feature. The event is open to people of all ages.
