PCC Election Count To Take Place On Scilly

PCC count will now take place at the Town Hall, St Mary’s

The counting for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections will take place on St Mary’s, rather than the ballot papers being transferred to the mainland as originally planned.

The loss of the helicopters, and the low tides on the day the elections are taking place, means it won’t be possible to transfer the ballot papers from the islands to the mainland, to be included in the main count centre at Carn Brae Leisure Centre in Redruth after the polls close.

There’ll be a separate count at the Town Hall.

Philip Hygate, who is currently suspended from his role, is the Council returning officer. Press spokeman George Pearson says if he is still on suspension or otherwise unavailable, Council Administration Officer Sue Pritchard can step in.

The Home Office has agreed this local count but they will also send two trained senior officers to work alongside the Isles of Scilly Council staff to ensure consistency.

As soon as the islands’ results are known, they will inform the mainland count.

That should take all of 5 seconds…
1……2……3……4……5 and the result for the Scilly isles are in.
