MP Nominated As ‘Backbencher Of The Year’

Scilly’s MP, Andrew George

Scilly’s MP, Andrew George, has been shortlisted for ‘Backbencher of the Year” in the annual House of Commons Awards.

Mr George says he stands no chance of winning the award as Parliamentary arithmetic at the very least is against it. But he says it’s a surprise and an honour to find himself on the nomination shortlist.

The MP says he can be a thorn in the side of the Government. He says just because he sits on the Government benches, doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be uncritical.

The results will be known next month.

I have always found Mr George to be an excellent constituency MP who always answers my letters, phone calls and emails and has always gone out of his way to help the islands regardless of the small number of votes he might hope to gain.
I wish Mr George every success in winning this title
