Scilly Could Get More Affordable Housing

New accommodation being built at Porthcressa

The Council’s housing officer has outlined the potential for new affordable accommodation on St Mary’s.

Ian Hamilton reports that the three units on the former library site on Buzza St should be ready for completion by mid March next year.

The Cornwall rural housing association has taken on a site in Well Cross Yard and are currently looking at construction costs and funding for that.

But the Co-op has not responded to plans to develop affordable homes on their site at the rear of their store. Unless the supermarket chain gets back to the Council or housing association, members have been advised that the scheme there should be considered dead.

The housing department is meeting or exceeding its targets, members were told. New Council house applications are being processed in seven days, three days faster than the guidelines, and non-urgent repairs are being dealt with in three days instead of the 28 days required.
