Scilly’s Tourist Info Centre Retains Green Award
The tourist information centre has retained its Silver Green Tourism Business Scheme award.
Assessors spent a day with TIC staff and awarded them an overall score of 73%.They said keeping the quality mark is an good achievement, as their scoring has become more rigorous over the years.
The organisation highlighted the array of green information available to visitors, which they describe as excellent, and they feel there is strong community involvement in the Hugh Town information centre.
Inspectors also liked the promotion of local food and drink and outdoor activities.
They have suggested a ‘spotter board’ where visitors can log wildlife sightings.
Sophie Hughes from the TIC is pleased with the award, as green tourism is becoming increasingly important. She said the inspection was very thorough and even included how environmentally friendly their office and facilities were.
Sophie says we live in a beautiful place, which needs to be protected and the TIC want to lead by example.
