‘Corpse’ Alert On Scilly Beach Was Language Mix Up

Police say they’re relieved that a report of a body washed up on a St Mary’s beach turned out to be a misunderstanding following language difficulties.

On Tuesday afternoon, a Belgian visitor called into the police station saying there was a corpse just above the tideline at Porthmellon.

Three officers responded, fearing the worse and expecting they’d have to cordon off the beach.

They found the body of a seal.
