LINk Supporting World Mental Health Day

St Mary’s Hospital

Today is World Mental Health Day and health watchdog, LINk4Scilly, says there are a number of initiatives ongoing to improve support here on the islands.

LINk recently announced the formation of a task group to look at mental health provision and gather people’s feedback. They’ll decide how to take this forward with all agencies in a ‘joined up’ way, says LINk manager, Carol Clark.

She says improving mental health support is a priority for all agencies here, and initiatives are underway to improve diagnosis and care for people with dementia as well as access to support and counselling for anxiety and depression, and help in a crisis.

Carol says there are professionals you can speak to in confidence; your GP, or Jonny Roberts at the Adult Social Care office. Telephone helplines are listed in LINk’s ‘Loads of Useful Numbers’ leaflet.

She’s keen to receive any comments about what you think they should be considering and these will be handled in complete confidence.

The Isles of Scilly Health and Wellbeing Fair takes place on November 13th and advice and information about mental health support will be available.
