Island Halls Receive Funding Boost

Existing St Agnes Island Hall will be refurbished

The Council’s Children and Young People Committee is to provide a further £20,000 towards the St Martin’s and St Agnes community halls.

The decision was taken at the committee’s meeting on Tuesday.

St Agnes Island Hall Group requested £10,000 to make their planned refurbishment family-friendly. This money will be in addition to a £65,000 grant offered in 2007.

St Martin’s Island Hall Committee applied for £10,000 for fixtures and fittings. The project received £46,500 in October 2007 and a further £2,700 was also allocated from an underspent budget.

In his report, children’s services manager Joel Williams said the additional money for the St Martin’s project brings their funding in-line with that offered for the St Agnes and Bryher community halls.

He said it’s possible that the St Martin’s group will come back with a request for further funding for play equipment in the future.
