Cricket: St Martin’s v Mal de Mer Club

Report by Colin Daly

The first of October and the 20/20 match against the Mal de Mers is the usual last match of the season.

To the distant sound of tractors removing boats from the moorings to be beached until next year, the toss was won by the visitors, who put St Martin’s in to bat first.

With a limited number of St Martin’s players (eight), good contributions were made to the score by a number of players and a reasonable total of 121 for 5 was achieved.

With the loan from the Mals of three players, the St. Martin’s fielding was efficient but the total required was reached with two overs to spare. The big innings was by Flowers junior of 71 not out.

34 not out was scored by our old friend from St Mary’s, Ben Jakes.

The weather was very kind and, in spite of losing, the home team will be looking forward to next year. So goodbye gentle listener or reader until 2013.
