Older People’s Day Being Celebrated

Park House could be used as drop-in centre

Older People’s Day is being celebrated on the islands for the first time today.

The event, which was originally developed by the United Nations, has been marked across the UK for the past five years.

This morning, there’ll be a coffee morning at Park House from 10am and free swimming sessions for over 60s at the Normandy pool from 1pm.

Cllr Richard McCarthy is chairman of the Community Services committee that looks after Park House and the Buzza Bus. Richard says the day will be a low-key affair here but the Council wanted to celebrate it because a third of our community are over 60 years of age.

If you need a lift on the Buzza Bus to the Normandy Pool for the swim, you can call the Town Hall reception on 424000 before lunchtime.
