Police Warning After Suspected Shoplifting

St Mary’s police are warning shopkeepers to be vigilant after the first reported case of shoplifting this year on the islands occurred last week.

Two pairs of swimming shorts were lifted, either on Friday or Saturday.

PCSO Shirley Graham says no suspects have been located and there are currently no further lines of enquiry. PC Faye Webb has been visiting businesses in Hugh Town advising shopkeepers to increase their security.

Shirley says this single act, although still unacceptable, contrasts with around half a dozen thefts last year. That flurry of activity could simply have been down to one person.

She says our extremely low level of crime can mean we get complacent and she wants businesses to be aware that you never know who is here.
