Award Nominations For St Mary’s Theatre Club

St Mary’s Theatre Club is in the running for four awards from the Cornwall Drama Association for their summer play, Murder in Company.

Director and cast member Kevin Leeman says he’s delighted that the club has secured so many nominations out of the 34 given ahead of October’s regional awards.

He says some of the larger clubs have entered a number of productions and he feels that Newquay and St Austell will provide the strongest competition.

Kevin himself is up for Best Director against two other nominees.

Dave Chodkiewicz has been put forward for Best Actor and the entire club is being considered for the Best Ensemble. Kevin says that means they have been commended for how the members worked as a team with timing and mutual support. “Everybody was spot on,” he says.

The cast all knew when the adjudicator was in the audience. Kevin says they changed the date of her visit after Bryony Lishman had to step in at short notice.

Clubs from all over Cornwall will attend the awards night at Newquay’s Great Western Hotel on October 27th.
