Lifeboat Crew To Feature In Charity Calendar

St Mary’s lifeboat crew will feature in their first charity calendar this Christmas.

The fundraising gift idea is being produced by professional photographer Chris Skone-Roberts.

Chris has been coming on holiday to Scilly since childhood and has recently been enjoying a two week break here, during which time he’s captured images of the islands.

He first became inspired to take pictures as a child by legendary islands’ photographer Frank Gibson.

Chris has dozens of islands’ lifeboat images that he has collected over the years that he says he’ll put into the calendar. These include some shots taken this weekend when volunteer crew were winched up to the Culdrose search and rescue helicopter, as part of a life-saving display to mark 75 years of commercial air flights to the islands.

He came up with the idea this weekend when he was photographer for Dave and Sarah Chodkiewicz’s wedding.

Chris says the calendar will try and bring in as much cash for the lifeboat as possible and he thinks it could be a big seller at Christmas. Producing a calendar is easier now, says Chris, with the new web-based technology that’s available. He wants it to be a ‘big, glossy’ item and expects it to sell for about £12.

And Chris says he has the perfect image for the calendar’s cover – it’s the one he has framed above his desk at home!
