Bryher Is Focus Of Food Festival On Sunday

A weekend devoted to offering a taste of the finest Scilly food and drink begins tomorrow with the first Tresco and Bryher Food Festival.

Saturday’s events focus on Tresco with a range of sessions and samplings from cupcake making and wine appreciation to a 7-course evening meal at the Flying Boat Club.

And the organiser of the Bryher events on Sunday is hoping that residents of all the islands will sample the range of food on offer.

Issy Tibbs says she’s put together some special sampling sessions to showcase the islands food.

The Vine Café will be offering a range of cakes and snacks for people with special dietary needs, like gluten free and vegan requirements. Issy says she has some allergies herself so she wanted to show how you can still create delicious food for people with food sensitivities.

Issy says there’ll be a chance to try authentic Mexican food made by a resident who’s originally from that country. And there’ll be lots of local produce on display, including veg from Hillside Farm, which supplies much of Bryher.

Issy says it’s been interesting working with Tresco in creating a joint event and the two days should offer a diverse and different take on local produce. She hopes the festival will bring some extra visitors to the island but it’s also about showcasing the best of local food for people who are already here.

And the unique nature of Bryher will be highlighted in accessing the island on Sunday. Because of the low tide, Issy says people have a chance to actually walk between Tresco and Bryher and sample food on both.
