ITV Cooks To Visit Tresco And Bryher Food Festival

The Hungry Sailors, Dick and James Strawbridge

A celebrity father-and-son cooking duo will be filming on Tresco this weekend during the islands new food festival.

Dick and James Strawbridge will be filming an episode for the second series of their ITV show, The Hungry Sailors, as part of a week-long visit to the Isles of Scilly.

They’ll be talking to local food producers on each island during their stay.

Tresco Estate’s Alasdair Moore says he’s delighted they’ll be spending the weekend on Tresco during the first Food and Drink Festival.

He says they’ll be making an early visit to the Abbey Gardens to sample the fruit and veg grown there, as well as meeting island farmer Paul Christopher, to try his Tresco beef.

But for keen cricketer Alasdair, the highlight will be the pair cooking tea for the cricketers during the island’s match against the visiting Truro Doctors team.

They’ll also be preparing a meal on Sunday for all the people they’ve been filming with over the week.

Alasdair says publicity like this is important for the islands, particularly as the market is down at the moment. He says he’s pleased with the media coverage that Tresco has received this year, including several high-profile magazine articles.

Alasdair isn’t sure when the programme will be aired but we’ll keep you updated nearer the time.
