Brownies Playing Host To Travelling Bear

The charity’s mascot, Penhaligon Bear

The islands’ Brownies will be playing host to an unusual guest this weekend.

They’ll be looking after Penhaligon Bear, who is travelling around Cornwall during September, using various forms of transport, to raise money for the Penhaligon’s Friends Charity.

Brownie Leader, Fiona Robson, told us the girls have got together with Barclays Bank to raise funds for the charity, which supports bereaved children.

Two girls will be chosen to look after the bear for two nights, and they’ll be taking photos of him during his ‘holiday’ here on the islands. Fiona says she’s asked the girls to come up with some interesting places to photo him that will show off the stunning scenery of the islands.

On Saturday the 24 Brownies be holding an event in St Mary’s Church hall, between 2pm and 4pm, where they’ll be selling coffee and cakes. There will also be a Teddy tombola and a raffle with prizes donated by Barclays.

Fiona says this is the start of the girls’ winter fund raising efforts, most of it involving cakes, with money raised going to the Brownies and other worthwhile causes nationally and on the islands.
