Fundraising Lunch In Aid Of Children’s Hospice

A fundraising lunch will bring in cash for one of the islands’ favourite causes today.

The Bell Rock Hotel is hosting the event at 12.30pm in support of the Children’s Hospice in St Austell.

George Teideman is their islands’ fundraiser. Now the £5m Little Harbour hospice is open, supporters need to find £1.25m a year to maintain the service.

George says the general economic situation and fewer visitors has taken its toll on support. Last year they brought in £10,000 but so far, 2012 has generated a smaller amount of around £6,000.

But he said he’s hoping for a better September and thinks they can add at least another £1,000 to that total.

George has been giving up his time freely twice a week to put on guided walks to the off-islands in aid of the appeal. He’s also arranged evening boat ghost trips, although those have fallen victim to the weather this year and that will affect the overall amount raised.

The group hope to hold another fundraiser to end their 2012 campaign at the Atlantic Hotel later in the month.
