Tresco Tack Sailing Race Taking Place Next Week

Islanders and visitors are being asked to join the annual Tresco Tack sailing race on Sunday 9th September.

The race goes from the quay head on St Mary’s to New Grimsby, and organisers are hoping for better weather than last year when the event was called off.

Mark Underwood says things have picked up recently with better weather than earlier in the season and with some exciting club sailing including the successful Round The Island race.

Mark hopes they will be able to carry on the positivity of the Redwing national championships.

It’s likely to be the race that closes the season although they may run another ‘lower key’ race later in September if the weather permits.

All sailors are welcome and the results are calculated with the Portsmouth yardstick, so any sailing craft can be catered for but only sailing club members can use their boats.

Marks says fun is more important than position on the finishing line and trophies will be awarded for achievements like the ‘capsize trophy’ and the ‘most rescued award’.

There’s a free pint of beer for all competitors at the New Inn, with a jazz band playing from 1pm.

The registration and briefing will be at 10am for a race start at 11am on 9th September.

Entry fees are £5.00 per boat for sailing club members and £10 per entry for non members
