Fundraisers Seeking New Recruits

A group of islands’ fundraisers want to recruit more like-minded locals to bring in cash for good causes.

Yesterday, Helen Sams, Annie Fricker and Becky Thomas sold cakes from stalls inside the Scillonian Club to raise money for their charity, the Challenge organisation.

They also raffled off a giant Churchill Insurance dog, donated by the Northants air ambulance.

The group decided to go indoors after the Rotary fun day was cancelled because of the bad weather.

The women intend hosting a series of jumble sales and cash-generating events over the next year with the next planned for October 6th. Annie says each year, they split the money raised between three or four different charities, with the current chosen ones being the Air Ambulance, Culdrose Rescue Helicopter, Ladies Circle and the Rotary Club.

Annie says a couple more members to help raise funds would be very welcome.

Helen says they also need more jumble, which raises money for the air ambulance and the Culdrose chopper. She’s also putting together a tapestry picture together depicting the helicopter crew on a rescue to raise further funds.
