St Martin’s Daymark Dash Taking Place On Monday

The Daymark on St Martin’s

An unusual running challenge will test the fitness of islanders and visitors on St Martin’s this Bank Holiday Monday.

The Daymark Dash covers a course from St Martin’s Hotel to the Reading Room, then up to the iconic red and white navigational marker, before returning back to Lower Town.

The run covers a distance of 4.2 miles.

35 people took part last year and the winner finished the run in 26 minutes 48 seconds.

Organiser, Neil Wood says it’s simply for fun, rather than charity, but still brings a good turn out. But he says there’ll also be a collection for the new Reading Room fund.

Neil said the race started with people staying on the campsite and is fast becoming a regular fixture on the island.

A keen runner, Neil says there are some tough parts to the course, particularly near the Daymark.

He says there are no plans to develop the dash into something bigger. It’s just for fun and people can turn up on the day to take part.

The event starts at 3.30pm on Monday.
