Tributes To Popular Islands’ Tourist Ambassador

Islanders have paid tribute to a former Steamship Company officer who played in major role in promoting the islands.

Pam Weaver passed away in hospital in Truro this week after a short illness. She was 76.

Pam used to promote Scilly as a tourist destination with islanders at the start of the fledging Tourism Association and is being remembered as a passionate ambassador for Scilly.

Friend and colleague Kathy Stedeford said she’ll be missed. She said Pam always threw her heart and soul into promoting Scilly wherever she went but she’s sad that there’s now a whole generation who are unaware of her work.

Kathy recounted how on a train journey with Pam, she would go around the carriage telling people about the islands and handing out brochures.

Kathy knows how Pam would want to be remembered – full of fun, and always with time to help other people. And she’s sure she would have been delighted that people still remembered her for what she did for the islands.
