Lord Attlee Apologises To Council Over Scillonian III Error

A Tory peer has written to the Council to apologise for implying that islanders’ boat fares to the mainland were just as cheap as those enjoyed by Scottish islanders.

Lord Attlee made the error in a House of Lords debate brought by Lord Berkeley to introduce the Council’s ‘Scottish Report’ which compares how little the residents of Islay pay compared to us.

He quoted the price of a single fare on the Scillonian III instead of a return trip. Some supporters of Scilly’s campaign for pricing parity felt that may have weakened Scilly’s argument.

Council Chairman Mike Hicks said it was nice that the peer had corrected his comments in response to Lord Davies of Oldham and had written to say so. He said he looked forward to reading the Scottish comparison report.
