Cricket: St Martin’s v St Mary’s

Report by Colin Daly

If we had taken notice of the weather forecast the evening match on 23rd August on St. Martin’s would not have been played. It certainly looked like rain with heavy dark clouds but it was decided to play eighteen overs each.

St Mary’s won the toss and put St Martin’s in to bat first. There was a slowish start with one wicket falling almost immediately, but the pace picked up and there were some fours and sixes.

When Matt Kerrigan came in the pace really picked up; his 73 included many fours and several sixes. St. Martin’s final score was 164 for five.

St. Mary’s came in to bat but were always behind the run rate and most of their top batsmen fell to some clever slow spin bowling. They were all out many runs short of the total needed.

So an unexpected win for St. Martin’s. The rain finally came during the post match analysis in the garden of the Hotel and drove us indoors to continue the discussion.
