Daily Telegraph Runs Article On Council Allegations

The Daily Telegraph newspaper has sent a reporter and photographer over to the islands to investigate allegations of bullying by the Council.

Journalist Victoria Lambert has spent two days on St Mary’s talking to members of the Heart of Scilly citizens group, islanders, and Council staff and members.

Following her research, Victoria says it’s apparent that some locals appear scared of upsetting the Town Hall in case there is revenge and says there is ‘undoubtedly’ a climate of fear.

Victoria feels that the papers’ readers will be interested to learn about the issues here.

She says Scilly is seen as somewhere that’s old-fashioned and timeless, and a change from the pace of life on the mainland. So hearing that all is not right here could be quite disturbing, she said.

Victoria says locals have readily come forward to talk to her and she’s been shocked by the strength of feeling and level of local concern that has been conveyed.

And Victoria feels that is something that elected officials and council officers need to take very seriously.

The article has appeared in today’s edition of the paper, which you can read here.

Community at war? Hardly! We have a problem that needs resolving and councillors with the resolve to deal with it properly. I thought the article is a bit wishy washy but at least some of the comments are spot on and say it like it is. What will it take before our councillors wake up, act on this, so that we can ALL move forward with confidence. No one man is more important than the well being and state of mind of a community!!!!!!
