Second Rotary Fun Day Set For August Bank Holiday

Islanders attending the second of this year’s Rotary Fun Days on August 27th will be able to see how the group’s fundraising helps the causes that are close to islanders.

At around 4pm on the Bank Holiday, this year’s President Ray Jackman and Rotarian Murray Hodgson will hand over a £1,000 cheque to the Cornwall Air Ambulance. Around £700 was raised in the raffle during the Jubilee weekend.

Fellow Rotarian Richard Larn says many groups and individuals have been helped through money raised at their club events with much of the money going to good causes in Scilly, including the Guides and support for the Jubilee Trust sail training.

Their tried and tested favourite attractions like chicken racing and bouncy castles will be supplemented by some new events on Holgate’s Green. Sid Lewis is making a bar skittles games and there’ll be a couples’ bag race, where two people have to cross the Green in a one-tonne bag. Richard Larn says that should be fun for both the participants and the watching crowd.

The female choir, the Scilly Sirens, are also set to sing to the crowds in two separate sessions.

And Richard says anyone who can help set things up on the Bank Holiday morning from 10am will be very welcome.
