Tide Gauge On Quay Is Upgraded

St Mary’s Quay

The tide gauge on St Mary’s quay has been upgraded this week.

Assistant Harbourmaster, Alan Hartwell, said the National Oceonography Centre had been in to update the gauge to the newest standards, including making it more resilient to power outages.

The gauge is housed in a heated cabinet within the ferry terminal storeroom, with the sensors attached to the quay wall.

It’s part of a network of tide gauges located all around the UK coast and has been logging data since 1992.

Data from the unit can be found on the Proudman Oceonographic Laboratory website here.
