Football Club Secretary Resigns

The Five Islands School football club secretary, Helen Glenn, has left her position following a disagreement over the former school head teacher Bryce Wilby attending the Olympic trip to see Team GB play at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

Bryce was a football coach with the club and in April, when the excursion to Wales was planned, he had been expected to accompany the 36 pupils and 9 other adults.

But some of the parents of football club members felt it wasn’t appropriate that a former staff member who had since left the islands was taking a place.

And some were uncomfortable that Bryce would be attending while he is still banned from school premises, as they still don’t know the outcome of investigations into alleged financial impropriety.

Helen Glenn says it was just a case that nobody had uninvited Bryce and she feels the committee should have made contact with him to prevent any misunderstanding.

Helen still attended the two games and said the event was ‘magical’ and a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ for the children.

Club Chairman Duncan Graham says he appreciates the work Helen has done over the years and thanked her for organising the Cardiff trip so superbly.

The club is likely to fill the secretary position at their AGM soon.
