Postmistress Disappointed Over Gold Medal Stamps

The Postmistress of St Mary’s Post Office says she’s disappointed that she hasn’t been able to get stocks of the special Gold Medal Winner stamps.

Lindsay Rodger says demand has been high with a steady stream of locals and visitors coming into the branch asking for the special editions.

The stamps celebrate each Team GB gold medal winner and are put on sale the day after the competitor’s winning performance.

But none of the post offices on Scilly have been allocated supplies, which are based on their normal levels of sales of special cover stamps. Unfortunately, St Mary’s does not have high enough sales to qualify.

Lindsay says she contacted the Post Office who told her 4,700 branches have been sent the stamps but many small, rural offices have been left out.

The nearest office stocking the stamps is Penzance although people can also buy them online at the Royal Mail website.

However, after we spoke to Lindsay yesterday, we received an email from the Post Office saying that they would send a special batch of stamps to St Mary’s and these should be available for sale on Thursday.

We’ll check with Lindsay if these arrive as promised.
