School To Bring In Internet Security Expert

The Five Islands School

The Five Islands School is bringing in an IT security consultant.

Director of Children’s Services, Penny Penn-Howard, told Councillors at Thursday’s Full Council meeting that there have been recent concerns at the school related to internet usage.

She said they would be working to ensure that the school’s IT systems are fit for purpose and all the necessary safeguarding features are working effectively and efficiently.

They’ll also ensure that all audit recommendations relating to IT security are implemented.

Council spokesperson, George Pearson, told us Members had raised concerns over the filtering levels on the school’s internet system, and whether this left a chance that children could access inappropriate material.

He said they’ve decided to bring in a security company to avoid any IT safeguarding issues in the future.
