Summer Play Scheme Starts Today

Up to 16 youngsters will enjoy daily fun and entertainment sessions each weekday during the school holidays.

The Council is launching five weeks of its popular summer play scheme today.

Meriel Williams is managing the programme of events for the 13th year. Organised trips, treasure hunts and wet and messy play sessions will fill the daily four-hour timetable.

Meriel says the youngsters have helped shape the programme of events. She said they were given a giant blank sheet of paper to put down their wish list of summer activities and they managed to put almost everything on the programme. The only thing missing is making Welsh cakes!

Meriel says they’ve added some new events to this summer’s list of activities including a trip on the glass-bottomed boat with Alfie Hicks. There will also be a morning spent visiting Tresco Abbey Gardens.

Meriel says they aim to do something different each day but sometimes the children want to continue with a theme they enjoy.

Both locals and visitors are welcome on the sessions and Meriel’s noticed an increasing number of holidaymakers, a development that she welcomes as it increases the pool of playmates for local youngsters and widens their learning experience.

Many of the outdoor sessions are booked but there is a reserve list system in case anyone drops out.

You can book through the Children’s Centre at Carn Thomas on 423680.
