Scilly Represented At Youth Parliament Conference

Scilly has been represented at a conference for the 300 members of the Youth Parliament in Nottingham this weekend.

Maddie Sibley was elected at the start of this term and serves as deputy to Alice Chuter, who couldn’t go.

Maddie says two issues, which have made the headlines at home recently, have dominated the discussions – mental health provision and transport issues. She says both affect young people and they’ll form part of the national manifesto for action.

Attendees have also learned tips for improving awareness of political issues and democracy using social media like Facebook.

Maddie says she’s had the chance to attend workshops and speeches, including one on how to run a political campaign.

She says she doesn’t know whether she’ll follow a political career but this weekend’s session has helped her develop some useful life skills.
