Annual Sailing Race Taking Place This Weekend

Sailing boats have arrived in St Mary’s harbour this morning on the annual ‘Penzance to Scilly and Back’ race.

The PSAB race has been running each year since 1978.

Secretary of the Penzance Sailing Club, Jean Hall, said the 26 boats set out last night at 8pm and were expected into St Mary’s harbour in the early hours of this morning.

The vessels included 4 multihulls and a larger J-Class Yacht and the race is proving so popular that over 50% of the vessels come from outside Penzance. Entrants this year include boats from as far away as Torbay and Wales.

Jean says the crews will be taking a break on Saturday night, before joining members of St Mary’s Sailing Club for a ‘Round the Island’ race on Sunday. There’ll be a prize giving ceremony on Sunday evening.

The weather is expected to be excellent for the three-day event and the boats will be retuning to Penzance on Monday morning.
