Summer Of Sport Planned for Children

Islands’ youngsters will be able to try their hand at Olympic sports.

From next week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays will showcase Olympic Skills sessions.

The events at the sports hall have been arranged so children can try sports they may not have experienced previously. Kids will be able to try out at track and field based events like running, long and high jump along with some water and beach-based activities.

Tess Lloyd, the Council’s Sports and Leisure Manager, says there’ll be better opportunities this year for the children as it’s the first summer of the new sports hall and the multi-use games area on St Mary’s.

The Council’s Community Services Chairman, Richard McCarthy says he hopes the sessions may even inspire one or two participants into becoming “a Scillonian Olympian for the future.”

Forms for the Council’s Sporting Holidays Activities Plan are available at the Town Hall or Sports Hall Reception at Carn Gwaval and include a full timetable of activities and an application form. Activities are open to both island and visiting children.
