St Martin’s Bakery Opens Under New Owner

The St Martin’s Bakery will start trading today, under new ownership.

Toby Tobin Dougan was forced to close the business and also the Seven Stones Inn two weeks ago due to bankruptcy. The bakery reopened but for just a few days of trading.

Now, Toby’s former colleague Barney McLachlan has taken over and is finalising a lease and sharing his business plan with the Duchy of Cornwall.

Barney says he doesn’t intend changing much this season but he is operating the bakery now as his own business. Toby isn’t involved currently but Barney has not ruled out working together in the future.

Toby had developed a bread making school to complement the business but Barney says he’ll decide whether to continue with that at a later date and no one is expected on a course until November.

The Seven Stones Inn remains closed as conversations continue with receivers who are on site this week

Barney first came to the island to work in 2000 when his father was running Polreath and he stayed after that season.

But his connection to the islands goes back further. He holidayed in Scilly while growing up in Wolverhampton.
