School Music Pupils Make The Grade

The Five Islands School

Woodwind and piano students have passed their Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams.

Five Islands School music teacher Jane Pender and piano teacher Debbie Crane taught the children.

Assessor Helen Deakin told Jane that she was impressed at how the students conducted themselves and they appeared to be relaxed, although Jane says she knows that wasn’t the case.

Inca Reynolds, Emily Smith and Katie Wainwright gained distinctions for their Grade 2 flute playing and Sophie Poat achieved the same result for Grade 3.

Leanne Williams and Emily Pender were awarded distinction at Grade 4 soprano saxophone and Zoe Hitchen got that mark for playing the alto saxophone.

Jane says the examiner was also very impressed with the new school, especially the music department and the facilities the children have access to.
