Plaque Removal

A plaque commissioned to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be replaced after its wording became unreadable.

Council Chairman Mike Hicks unveiled the commemorative sign fixed to the Coronation Shelter on The Strand at the end of the Jubilee Street party on June 5th. Yesterday, the plaque had been removed.

Council press officer George Pearson told us that the plaque was made by an external supplier and they got the job because their previous work was of an extremely high standard.

This work was not up to the standard the Council had expected. Town Hall staff have been in talks with the manufacturer trying to resolve the matter quickly.
