Police Accompany Woman Back To Mainland

Two St Mary’s police officers accompanied a visitor to the mainland yesterday so she could receive specialist medical attention.

The woman in her thirties sailed to Scilly over the weekend. She stayed in accommodation on St Mary’s on Monday night but there were concerns about her mental health and her accommodation provider contacted health professionals. Police after she became highly agitated.

PC Collier and PC Blyth took the woman to a specialist unit in Penzance yesterday lunchtime, but she discharged herself, went down to the Gry Maritha, took a lifebelt and then attempted to swim back to Scilly.

The Penzance lifeboat was launched to rescue the woman and she was taken back to  Newlyn where an ambulance was waiting.
