St Mary’s Quay Gets New Welcome Sign

Passengers disembarking the Scillonian III today will find a warmer welcome than previously.

A large ‘Welcome To St Mary’s’ sign has been installed on the side of the harbourmasters building, one of the first things passengers see as they get off the boat.

Harbourmaster Dale Clark says the green sign with cream lettering, and featuring the Duchy emblem is part of ongoing work to tidy up the quay. It’s been designed by Erica Hicks.

He says the wall used to have a jumble of signs, which have all been removed, and it’s been given a new coat of paint.

The area the passengers walk through is hard to disguise, says Dale, being the freight yard for the quay, but he hopes the work will “soften the blow” as they arrive.

This is very nice to see. Little things like this go a long way to smarten up the islands and add immense value.

Brilliant, I mean that. LITTLE things like this make a BIG difference to visitors, nice little touches so that they do feel that we are considering them!

If someone took the same attitude across the islands then people would be much happier with their visit to Scilly. Tidy, neat, nice, clean, safe…we just need the Duchy and the Council to work together on creating a unified attitude to looking after the islands.

that would be somebody other than our local authority thinking of that good idea then, well done Dale ! simple – cheap and does make a difference.
