Chief Executive To Chair New Local Nature Partnership Initiation Board

Council Chief Executive, Philip Hygate

The Council’s Chief Executive, Philip Hygate, has been nominated to chair the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership (LNP) Initiation Board.

LNPs are a new initiative introduced by the Government and are designed to allow local decisions to be made about the natural environment, including reversing current trends of habitat and species decline and landscape degradation. It’s anticipated around 50 will be established across the country by the end of this year.

One of the key aims of the LNPs is to raise awareness about the potential economic benefits that can be derived from a healthy natural environment, and as such, it’s hoped they’ll work closely with local authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and Health and Wellbeing Boards.

A spokesman at the Council said a report will be prepared relating to the formation of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly LNP for the next Planning & Development Committee in July.
