Children Receive ShelterBox Award

St Agnes School

Pupils from The Five Islands School have received pennant flags in recognition of their contribution to the ShelterBox disaster relief appeal.

ShelterBox volunteer, David Crook, handed out the awards last week.

He visited the St Agnes primary school base last year and presented them with a Young ShelterBox t-shirt and a challenge to, “do something” with it.

The pupils decided to send the t-shirt around the world. Their aim was to decorate the t-shirt with as many badges as possible all from places connected in some way to St Agnes.

A year on, the t-shirt has visited St Lucia, Greece, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, Brazil and it’s been driven down Route 66 in the United States.

David Crook said: ‘I gave them the challenge but I didn’t think they’d come up with something as exciting and impressive as this, but then I shouldn’t be surprised by anything the ever-enterprising Scillonians can come up with!’

The Isles of Scilly has raised over £50,000 for ShelterBox disaster relief, which is the most fundraising per head of any region.
