Fire Crew To Survey All Homes

Fire crew will survey all of the islands’ homes and buildings to update the list of fire risks in Scilly.

The work is in line with Government guidelines and aims to reduce the risk to the community and to fire fighters attending an incident.

Floor plans of larger properties will be updated and staff will list chemicals stored or asbestos in agricultural or industrial buildings.

Members were told that recording domestic heating arrangements, like gas cylinders and access to water supplies will be ‘labour intensive’.

They’ve agreed to set aside £3,000 for the work. All of the islands’ fire stations currently maintain a list of protected or important environmental sites, which has been provided by the Wildlife Trust.

Councillor Julia Day was surprised that some of the data on the risk register had become outdated and she favoured a rolling programme of information gathering.
