Cricket: Tresco v St Martin’s

Report by Colin Daly

A wet morning gave way to a fine afternoon as predicted and a 25-over match between Tresco and St. Martin’s got underway pretty much on time.

St. Martin’s won the toss and elected to bat first.

After the much smaller ground on St. Agnes where they played last week they found it harder to score and only just got past the hundred. Matt Kerrigan and Angus Spencer top scored with 32 and 14 respectively.

The Hamilton brothers opened for Tresco with their dad as one umpire. They started cautiously and although there were times when it looked as though they could win, Tresco were all-out well short of the total required.

Both fielding sides took some difficult catches but the one that impressed me most was a caught and bowled by Adam Morton.

I was umpiring at that end and was convinced it was over his head but he managed a prodigious leap and the ball stuck in one hand.

The match analysis took place in the new Ruin Beach Cafe.
